is it easier to use automatix2 for installing windows programs like dsl router and E-

    Hi,
is it easier to use automatix2 than wine for installing windows programs like my dsl router and E-sword, and other windows programs that I own on CD-ROM?

I have some specialized engineering education programs I like to use and my kids like to play with. I.E. West Point Bridge Designer, Building Homes of Our Own, Physics programs, Inventor, MDSolids, etc., etc., etc. ad infinitum, ad nauseum

If it is easier with automatix2, is there a step by step proceedure?
I am new to ubuntu and to linux, but learning slowly.

    Thanks,
    Scott A

You need WINE because it emulates windows so your programs can run on linux, automatix just makes your live a little easier since it reduces the work you have to do configuring your system.

    Did you check winehq?

Using programs on a cd in Wine is very hard, and usually runs somewhat buggy. That is not to say it can't be done, but for things like that, I would recommend using Windows. Automatix is only used for installing Linux programs, such a Wine, on Debian and its derivatives (e.g. Ubuntu).
