I can't get this to work for me at all. I am on Ubuntu 12.04 and I need to write Spanish. Can anyone explain in plain language for the technically challenged how I can do this please?

Thank you Buck, I needed exactely this line two recover my .XCompose file - if anyone is interested in productiv AncientGreek writing, I've written an "additiō Graeca" for .XCompose to be combined with a new Version of the Layoutfile "gr": http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...0#post12741640

It is based on the Windows-Layout, which allows fluent writing in AncientGreek As I am "typing on" I will make updates of it for sure, when it is "ripe"

Maybe my reuse of unecessary "dead_keys" is helpful to design other keyboard layouts for scripts with many diacritics

    Thank you all again

    Good evening,

Here is a list of Spanish characters with their keyboard shortcuts.
Please ensure that you have not set a Compose key under Keyboard > Layout Settings > Options

    AltGr semi-colon a = á

    AltGr semi-colon e = é

    AltGr semi-colon i = í

    AltGr semi-colon o = ó

    AltGr semi-colon u = ú

    AltGr [ u = ü

    AltGr ] n = ñ

    AltGr semi-colon c = ç

    AltGr semi-colon shift a = Á

    AltGr semi-colon shift e = É

    AltGr semi-colon shift i = Í

    AltGr semi-colon shift o = Ó

    AltGr semi-colon shift u = Ú

    AltGr [ shift u = Ü

    AltGr ] shift n = Ñ

    AltGr semi-colon shift c = Ç

    AltGr shift ! = ¡

    AltGr shift underscore = ¿

As an example for line one, press Alt Gr together with semi-colon, release the keys and then press lower case a.

    Result should be á

However for ¿, you have to press three keys simultaneously i.e. Alt Gr and Shift and Underscore

Hopefully, you will find it useful

    Kind regards
