Yet another let's-make-an-ubuntu-for-every-DE
Ok. So, I'm making yet another ubuntu for another DE, but with a slight difference. No DE.
I'm going to call it cubuntu (commandline ubuntu). What I need to know is, what programs would you want in a commandline-only ubuntu system? So far, i've thought of: cplay (a music player, a bit like rythmbox) + mp3, ogg etc extentions links2 (a web browser) emacs (a text editor) tinyirc (an irc client) So what else do you think I need? |

Elmo is a great command line email client.
I like nano for text. I used to play a command line game called "Galaxy Blaster" a long, long, time ago. It could probably be resurrected.

Just install Ubuntu Server. It has no desktop and is pared down to the max (or is that min). It only takes 32 MB of memory in its basic state.
In my opinion, the best command line app is the command line itself. It allows you to do pretty much anything. |

This might give you some more ideas.
http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=260946 If it were me, I'd call it clubuntu, for command-line-ubuntu. And by the way, the gNewSense team has customizable scripts to recast their Ubuntu-based distro in whatever shape you prefer. You need a fast internet connection though, since you end up organizing about 27Gb of repositories.

If you are looking for a command line live-cd without rolling your own distro, then I will suggest the SLAX Frodo Edition. It's pretty easy to customize with whatever programs you want. I find it real handy to have around.

Thnaks for your replies, everyone! I'm on the final stage now - reading a howto on making an apt repository...
I think i'll include rtorrent and perhaps midnight commander. gpm looks quite cool too. They might make version 0.2, which i'm making in about 5 minutes - half an hour after version 0.1  |
