    Re: Aqua On Linux!

probably quite hard. But the entire aqua interface would take around 3 days to write which requires you to do every thing pixel perfect. & the toolbar, Dock would also take some time. But some people have done it using freeBSD & Darwin linux which is a simpler method of doing the aqua interface. Afterall MAC OSX is closed source linux

If there's ever such a thing as "closed source Linux", then there would be many lawsuits launched.
I try to treat the cause, not the symptom. I avoid the terminal in instructions, unless it's easier or necessary. My instructions will work within the Ubuntu system, instead of breaking or subverting it. Those are the three guarantees to the helpee.

Mac OS X is not even close to a closed source Linux.

Everyone I know thinks that anything that runs on a UNIX core must be linux. (They also think that all linux'es are free...)

linux =/= BSD. People already described what Mac OS X is, but it is not closed source either. It is actually "Closed source with open source components"..

As far as I know, as far as Kernels go, Darwin is just another Unix-Like system, possibly forked from FreeBSD, if not, it's definitely based on BSD! It's just as open source as FreeBSD and Linux. Afaik, it's only the front end and the programs on OS X that are closed.

As for running Aqua on Linux, it would have its benefits, it would make switching from OS X to GNU/Linux a lot more simple! The down side is, at the moment, Apple are the only folks that can update it, and I doubt they'd release the code any time soon!

Although, I think KDE 4.2 is probably a much nicer interface, though I am yet to try it! (I am waiting for the release of Jaunty to make the leap from regular Ubuntu, to Kubuntu )

    Re: Aqua On Linux!

Mac OS X is not just closed-source Linux. It has had so many significant changes to the initial BSD kernel, that they are very different now.
