    - when i type "lsusb" i do see my player listed as a creative device

also, the general consensus around here is that because my player is installed with "playforsure" drivers from back in my windows days, it isnt being read properly. is there any truth to this?
oxyrosis, your device will be read properly, now that libmtp is present for Linux. I posted a how-to blog for installing Amarok and MTP (with the aid of this thread). The link is in my profile. See if that helps.

I dont get why they just cant install MTP support straight up in Amarok, everything else is "switched on" e.g ipod support, why make it hard for MTP users its driving me nut.

probably because MTP support is still so new. a year ago, i was trying to find a way to connect using gnomad2 - which is still awesome. MTP is probably still thought of as "experimental" because of it's newness. i'm sure it'll be ported just like ipod support has been. it'll just take time.

i'm using a creative zen xtra - a very old school player... but i hear ya... you buy a "new" device, and as soon as you tear the box open, it's already the older model.

it's funny how much worse tech stuff depreciates than cars.

Re: [How-To] Install Amarok with MTP-Device Support

I wish, ive got a version of Amarok working with mtp support in the past by simply changing sources to feisty and install amarok that way, not this time around though even 1.4.5 from edgy repo's is now locking up on me, this is so frustrating, this is one of the reasons windows users get to laugh at us

this is where it locks up, now id be happy just to have a working version of amarok

anyone know where to get older debs of amarok btw?

1.4.5 in Feisty isn't currently built with mtp support.
