But the iso is correctly found and mounted! I don't understand, if I can browse the cdrom it has to be readable...
What error does the installer give you?

    pinkertime,
    i dont understand.

the installer is a different program than what initiated the installation.
thi s exactly why you need step 7.

read the howto pages before posting a question.also look at https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+bugs to see it is not a bug before getting frustrated.

I can go up to point (9) included successfully. That is the installer after hard drive scan says

"Successfully mounted edgy installer ISO image."

In fact, if I come back to terminal I can browse the mounted iso in /cdrom. In the next step the installer tries to load installer components from the installer ISO, but here it fails and the error is

"There was a problem reading data from the CD-ROM. Please make sure it is in the drive. If retrying does not work, you should check the integrity of your CD-Rom.

    Failed to copy from CD-ROM.
    "

But the CD-ROM is mounted and is not corrupted because I have checked it with md5. It seems to be a problem of reading permissions.

I think to have understood why the procedure does not work for me. The installer, that is a debian installer, supports only installation from a /boot directory with an ext2 or ext3 file system (http://lists.alioth.debian.org/piper...il/000289.html)
But my /boot file system is reiserfs. Could you confirm my hypothesis?

    Hi pinkertime,

The below lines are from the ./var/lib/dpkg/info/iso-scan.postinst file contained within the initrd.gz file:

    # Load up every filesystem known to man. The drive could have anything.
FS="ext2 ext3 reiserfs fat vfat xfs iso9660 hfsplus hfs ntfs"

as far as I know it should support reiserfs.

Does your machine have a physical cd-rom drive with another CD in the tray?

    anyone else got a clue?

Re: HOWTO: Install Edgy 6.10 from an .iso file

I'm having the same problem -- the loopback fix doesn't work for me.

My syslog says, when it tried to load my hda1 and hda2, that it "Mounted /dev/hda# for first pass" then "Failed mounting /dev/hda#".

I frankly think it's ridiculous to release a distribution where your *installer doesn't work*

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Re: HOWTO: Install Edgy 6.10 from an .iso file

I wish I could get to step 9 to fail. I can't even get it to load with GRUB. Whenever I try I get an error 15 cannot mount. I double checked that its the right partition and I even formatted the partition as ext3 just in case that was the problem, but nothing has worked. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
