    IT WORKS!!!

This procedure does not work for me only with the desktop iso but works with the alternate version (ubuntu and kubuntu). I only complain the fact that I was more interested in the desktop version to try ubuntu live. But ok thank you all.

Re: HOWTO: Install Edgy 6.10 from an .iso file

    Hello all,

Just thought i'd add my 2 cents...

I can install Breezy badger using grub from an iso file no problem but....

    kubuntu/ubuntu 6.10 desktop fail

I get the same problem john_spiral had so i try the fix here:

    http://doc.gwos.org/index.php/Instal...m_an_.iso_file

The iso is found but i get error:

"There was a problem reading data from the CD-ROM. Please make sure it is in the drive...."

Right away. Haven't tried the alternate versions yet...

    Great news pinkertime!!!!

I've updated the HOWTO,it looks like this method will only work with the alt versions of the installer. It's important also to rename all other versions of the installer .iso file that might be lying around.

Re: HOWTO: Install Edgy 6.10 from an .iso file

my fault it was loading other iso from subfolder on some other partition - doblecheck this

    rem -- i have tried now the kubuntu-6.10-alternate-i386.iso - MD5 - 23347e2e519f0f638cf0161ae65f17f8 and still get the missing debian-installer errors ?
is this any specific problem with the kubuntu installl ?
shall i try ubuntu instead or the installers are the same?

    10x for the excelent howto.!

    Hi akad_nedelchev,

The howto should work for all alt versions of the .iso. At what point do you get an error and what error do you get?

I frankly think it's ridiculous to release a distribution where your *installer doesn't work*

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Nevermind, I decided I'm giving up on Ubuntu when I realized that even the GUI installer has a showstopper bug that's been not fixed for 2 months (hitting forward freezes the installer -- and I have very normal hardware...)

It's also ridiculous that this long-standing soapbox bugfix hasn't been incorporated into the release -- why have the hd-media installer anyway if it's been broken for months?

If you don't have Linux installed (yet), or just don't like using Grub there is Gujin. If you still have a floppy drive, it's very easy to use.

    Hope this helps...

    P.S.
You still have to use hd-media
