how can you play VLC videos in the terminal w/ ASCII art?

I think it's really cool to do (especially if you plan on ssh'ing in to a machine and want to stream.
is there a way to get this feature in the terminal ?
thanks

I've never heard of such thing, but I think it would be cool if it did exist, a little hard though... Programming the engine would involve a lot of time for a very unsure result.

Re: how can you play VLC videos in the terminal w/ ASCII art?

it does exist already
in VLC go to preferences- video --output modules
then choose ascii art (or colour ascii art)
you can do it on a MAC in the terminal, so you should be able to do it in linux

You can do it in mplayer. Go to the terminal, even in a virtual one, and type mplayer -vo caca foo.mpg (replace foo.mpg with any video u have)

it looks much worse than VLC though.
are there any ways to increase resolution?
if not, maybe VLC does a better job. If anyone knows how to do it in VLC

I've used Vuurmuur for this purpose it takes a little time to learn the interface but having got the hang of it it certainly is much quicker than writing scripts for ipchains etc.
