Enemy Territory Only Lets Me Be A Spectator?

Please excuse my ignorance, but when I try to join a game on Enemy Territory,
it only lets me play as a spectator. What am I missing?

haven't played in a while, iirc hit L for the limbo menu and then click on either the allied or axis flag

You have to click on either the allies or axis flags (the one with less players) and then click ok at the bottom. Chances are the server is full, in that case you'll gonna have to look for another server.
