Re: Live Ubuntu Cd?

When you first run the CD it will run as a LiveCD, it will then ask you if you want to run Ubuntu from your hard disc. It will then go thorugh partitioning your drive so that you can remove windows completely if you wish.

Re: Live Ubuntu Cd?

If everything works fine from the CD then you should have no problems once its installed on the hard disk.

If everything works under the Live CD (Desktop CD), then it certainly will work when you install it on your Hard Drive.

Make sure you can access the Internet from the Live CD.

Also, hope the Live CD that you got is an update version, Like Dapper (Ubuntu 6.06) or Edgy (Ubuntu 6.10).

Some say that it is better to use Dapper for a new user.
As for me, I haven't still had a problem with Edgy.

Also, here is an Manual/Guide for Installing Ubuntu:

Smile Re: Live Ubuntu Cd?

The easiest way to wipe Windows is to tell Ubuntu to reformat the hard drive completely when you install it. The downside of this is that you'll lose all your files on the hard drive. If this isn't a problem to you, then go right ahead.

Otherwise, either back up your files before installing Ubuntu or create a separate partition for Ubuntu on your HD when you install it. There is an option to do this during the installation process which should be quite clear to you - I think it says "Use the largest area of free space on your hard drive".
