Very good list you'd made here

Just to let you know I've never been able to get Synfig to work either, tried compiling it on 3 systems now with all dependancies met and everything and it bombs out. I'll have to try the apt method tho to see if I have any luck.

One thing you might want to add to Scribus is Scribus-NG, it's mostly a development build with more features, but may be more unstable than Scribus.

Otherwise good work You found alot of stuff that I've not come across yet. I'm working an a ubuntu desktop publishing system at work so some of this will come in handy.

I did get Ktoon to work once on edgy, with the icons, it'a all a matter of specifying the right install dir when the app starts for the first time. unfortunately I can't remember the exact location... but it's somethin in /usr i think...

Re: A list of design, photo, video & animation tools

Very good list! I really like the LightZone software to do a quick touch up for my photos.

Maybe you could also put in a section for 'photo managing' such as f-spot and picassa?

And shouldn't imagemagic also be somewhere?

BTW maybe it is better if you promote the use of aptitude vs. apt-get ( http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/aptitude ). Especially for people who just quickly want to try things out aptitude is really good because it allows for very easy removal.

Done and done. Except for Imagemagick, if I start listing every possible image program based on Imagemagick, this is list is going to be endless.
Stick with The Gimp... for now.
