    sudo modprobe fglrx produces:
    Code:

    lsmod grep | fglrx produces no output

    lsmod grep | radeon produces:

    Here is my output too:

    Code:
    $ lsmod | grep fglrx
    fglrx                 405164  8
    agpgart                33456  2 fglrx,intel_agp
    Code:
    $ lsmod | grep radeon
    NOTHING
    Code:
    $ fglrxinfo
    display: :0.0  screen: 0
    OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: www.mesa3d.org
    OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
    OpenGL version string: 1.2 (1.5 Mesa 6.5.1)
    Code:
    $ glxinfo | grep direct
    direct rendering: No
    OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect

    I "installed" fglrx with another guide. I'd like to follow yours,but I dont know the correct way to uninstall the fglrx from the previous one.

    Ethon: You need to follow the linux-restricted-modules steps. If installing does nothing, do a reinstall. You need to copy the module out of the "volatile" folder and into "misc" then run depmod. Just follow the guide, but use "reinstall" instead of "install" if "sudo aptitude install linux-restricted-modules`uname -r`" does nothing.

    Anonil: Did you switch your xorg.conf to use fglrx? If so, please post the following:
    Code:
    $ grep EE /var/log/Xorg.0.log
    $ grep WW /var/log/Xorg.0.log
    $ grep fglrx /var/log/Xorg.0.log
    Knowledge is half the battle.
    The other half is violence!

    Re: Howto: ATI Mobility Beryl/XGL FGLRX in Edgy

    Alrighty reinstalled restricted modules as you requested.

    Now I can modprobe fglrx.

    lsmod | grep radeon produces no output.

    lsmod | grep fglrx produces:
    Code:
    fglrx                 406988  8
    agpgart                34888  2 fglrx,ati_agp
    Code:
    fglrxinfo
    display: :0.0  screen: 0
    OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: www.mesa3d.org
    OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
    OpenGL version string: 1.2 (1.5 Mesa 6.5.1)

    This how-to works well for me with the exception of GTK themes. The default Ubuntu themes work fine, but any custom themes don't display correctly and look like the ugly GTK1 style.

    Re: Howto: ATI Mobility Beryl/XGL FGLRX in Edgy

    Dammit I'm always getting Mesa on the fglrxinfo and never ATI. Check this:

    Code:
    $ fglrxinfo
    Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".
    display: :0.0  screen: 0
    OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: www.mesa3d.org
    OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
    OpenGL version string: 1.2 (1.5 Mesa 6.5.1)
    Why? Also, my xorg.conf:

    Code:
    # /etc/X11/xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file)
    #
    # This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
    # values from the debconf database.
    #
    # Edit this file with caution, and see the /etc/X11/xorg.conf manual page.
    # (Type "man /etc/X11/xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
    #
    # This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
    # if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg

    Re: Howto: ATI Mobility Beryl/XGL FGLRX in Edgy

    I get the DRI working fine but I've other problem
    I select the Xgl session in the login screen and when it is entering, there is an error (session during less than 10 seconds...), I see the xsession-errors and I see the problem: screen not found :S
    I made a copy/paste of your starxgl script but it doesn't works. When I start a Gnome session all works fine... any idea?

    I tried all suggested but I also cannot get past mesa. Any suggestions?

    Code:
    $ fglrxinfo
    display: :0.0  screen: 0
    OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: www.mesa3d.org
    OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
    OpenGL version string: 1.2 (1.5 Mesa 6.5.1)

    $ sudo modprobe fglrx
    $ lsmod | grep fglrx
    fglrx                 405164  8
    agpgart                33456  2 fglrx,ati_agp
    $ lsmod | grep radeon

    Re: Howto: ATI Mobility Beryl/XGL FGLRX in Edgy

    Anonil: You dont have the Option Composite Disable in your xorg.conf.

    Ethon: Make sure to log out and press control-alt-backspace, or reboot, before you try doing fglrxinfo to check to see if you have ati.

    katgfan: Same as Ethon. Also, post the results of "grep EE /var/log/Xorg.0.log".
    Knowledge is half the battle.
    The other half is violence!
