Playstation 2
Xbox
I thought really hard about a Dreamcast, but there just aren't that many games for it that really interest me... and the ones that do are very hard to find these days.

If you're willing to install a modchip on an Xbox, give it a new HDD, and install some software on it, you can backup your games to it's HDD. I've got about 30 odd games on mine and it has shorter loading times from the hard disk. Also got a Plsyation 1 Emulator and Neo Geo emulator on it.
PS2 has better games, even though you can play some of them on a PS3 if you have the right model. This can also be done on an Xbox 360, but I still believe PS2 is the way to go. Plus, you can't go wrong with games like Time Splitters 2, God of War, Resident Evil 4, etc.

QFT
I'm a long time user of XBMC
When my first xbox went belly up I traded a old used Chipped PS2 to a refurb Xbox so i could have my beloved media center that plays everything (less high def video files, not enough power in the old xbox for that)
the xbox with XBMC on it is by far the best, most compatible and flexible media center for your living room hands down
and the best part, its free, well the software is at least
Theres no halo/halo2 on Ps2, xbox ftw.
These days, my computers change so much, all I can say for sure here is ubuntu.
