IMPORTANT: Thinking of upgrading to Edgy?

As you all know, the Latest and Greatest release of our favorite distro, 6.10 "Edgy Eft" was just officially released.

I know that we all love running the newest & coolest software possible, but let me appeal for calm. The upgrade mirrors are currently under VERY heavy load; people are reporting timeouts, dropped connections, and so forth.Try to have patience if going foward with the upgrade.

Note:If you have no compelling reason to upgrade to Edgy, please consider staying with your current version. As with ANY Operating System upgrade, it is important to fully back up your system before attempting the process.


"Compelling reason" here does NOT mean "well, I want to be as up-to-date as I can be." If you can't think of a single thing that's in Edgy that you can't live without, then you probably don't have a compelling reason.

Also note that Edgy 6.10 is considered a development platform for testing new ideas,and technology. Use of this version,and coming versions there after are at your own risk.


First Time Linux/Ubuntu users are advised to use dapper,and not edgy as their frist step into Linux.

Should you need help you are encouraged to:
1)Search the forum for answers before posting any new threads.

Should you feel the need to make a new thread you are encouraged to:
1) Have complete hardware info. including all makers names model numbers
2) Complete list of any and all errors.
3) Be patient If your question/s are not answered in a few hours or a day then bump the thread
4) When posting threads subscribe to them to keep track of them,and answers you received.

Note: New users who choose to use edgy as their Operating system are urged to used caution,and advised to know and understand how to fix your own issues. You have been warned..
