    how could I get gaim to pipe chat messages to a [temporary] plain text file that I could tail in conky?

    if you use the logging plugin, you could probably just tail the logfile?

    Well I tried enabling logging, and then tailing the logfile, but the problem is, it creates a new .txt log for each conversation.

    I tried a bunch of different times to tail one file, but it kept giving me errors about the arguments

    what i was trying was
    Code:
    ${tail /home/john/.gaim/logs/blah/blah/blah/*.txt 3 20}
    and
    Code:
    ${tail /home/john/.gaim/logs/blah/blah/blah/*.txt 3 (20)}
    and
    Code:
    ${tail /home/john/.gaim/logs/blah/blah/blah/*.txt 3}
    and every time it gave me an error about the arguments

    what I wanted to happen was it would show the most recent entry to any of the logfiles, and display them on 3 lines, with an update interval of 20 seconds, but no dice

    it could probably be easily done through a python script or maybe a bash script but I don't know python and I don't know how I would go about doing it in a bash script
    oh, and in a last ditch attempt I ran gaim --help to see if there was a "pipe output" option but no luck on that either

    Hi Guys - a pretty little tool - hadn't seen it before so always learning something new!

    My screenshot attached - have yet to play with a customised .conkyrc

    Need a lot of work to match the polish of some of your efforts

    Cheers

    Re: Post your .conkyrc files w/ screenshots

    Within my conkyrc file Im attempting to display all the local wireless networks that are around me with there signal strength. All of the info is gathered from iwlist wlan0 scan:

    Code:
    Detected Networks:
    $alignr${execi 20 iwlist wlan0 scan | egrep 'ESSID|Quality' | cut -d':' -f2 | cut -d' ' -f1 | sed -e 's/"//g' | sed -e '$!N;s/\n/: /' | sort -r --key=2}
    This basically prints out a list something like this

    Code:
    Network #1 50/100
    Network #2 40/100
    Network #3 30/100
    From the Command above Im trying to right justify all of the output such that it appears like:
    Code:
    Detected Networks:
         Network #1 50/100
         Network #2 40/100
         Network #3 30/100
    However All Im getting is this
    Code:
    Detected Networks:
         Network #1 50/100
    Network #2 40/100
    Network #3 30/100
    Any ideas how to right justify all the output from the command above?

    Maybe it's that alignr only justifies the line it's on but doesn't take note of linefeeds in the exec result. I'd probably either kludge it to have separate execs each producing one line and alignr-ing them, or look into patching the program itself.

    Those two suggestions are kind of way over the top. In reality I could not predict how many networks I could find, and as far as patching the program --- Im not sure if Im up to that challange.

    Did the weather script stop working for anyone just now? I was messing with dependicies to get gimp 2.4 and now thats gone. However if I try gdesklets for the weather, that won't work either so maybe weather.com is just being stupid.
