    Re: Post your .conkyrc files w/ screenshots

    I haven't done much that's original or made up by me. Most of it is hacked together from others' scripts, conkyrcs, etc.

    Wallpaper is from Deviant Art. I'm using the "ssc.sh" script to start three conkys - left, middle, and right. The middle conky displays lyrics using lyricsdownloader when music is playing and nothing (except that little square!) when no music. I'd love it if someone could tell me how to show absolutely nothing when there is no music but if I have to live with that little square I probably can. On the left side, I'm using a tweaked version of a stockcheck perl script I found. I hacked it up a bit to make it look like I wanted to and not as the original author intended. I'm happy to post it but it's still kind of a work in process. Let me know and I'll post it or email it. Also using a twittersearch script, gmail script and the usual weather script.

    Overall I'm very pleased with it. I also recently got a new GIANT monitor so my native resolution is now 1920 x 1080!!! which gives me a lot of room to fill up.

The only thing I can think that you could do is use the fake transparency that comes with conky and set the background in compiz to the same as the one that is set by gnome or nautilus or w/e is drawing your normal background. However, this way you will only be able to keep the conky window on 1 viewport.
    Actually, the link I posted gives an additional plugin to compiz which allows transparency of a single colour to be set. So you'd set the background of your conky to be entirely that colour, and get transparency on the background, with full opacity for the text. Obviously just setting CLASS=conky transparency would affect text and such.

    Am just frustrated that conky doesn't allow me to place files etc. in my Desktop at its location. I may switch to Kubuntu, then the desktop can be simply shown a a widget on the wallpaper, like a single folder. Maybe when Jaunty comes out (KDE 4.3? =) )

    But you don't need to if you really don't want to.

    Try this in your middle conky

    Code:
    TEXT
    ${if_running amarokapp}${font Sans:size=9}${execi 10 ~/scripts/yricsdownloader.py | fold -sw60 }${font}${endif}${else}
    It's a one liner with ${else} on the end!

    Code:

    Conky: window type - override
    Conky: drawing to created window (0x5000001)
    Conky: drawing to double buffer
    Conky: you don't need that many fonts, sorry.
    I love the last line. No idea what that means!

    Re: Post your .conkyrc files w/ screenshots

    I believe you should have:-
    Code:
    TEXT
    ${if_running amarokapp}${font Sans:size=9}${execi 10 ~/scripts/yricsdownloader.py | fold -sw60 }${font}${else}${endif}
    Basically, if amarok is NOT running, then that line is just blank. Without even a newline.

    Re: Post your .conkyrc files w/ screenshots

    I really like the simplicity of Conky and the way it works.

    But i was wondering if there is anything in Linux/Ubuntu which works in a similar way to Samurize for Windows?

    Samurize has more of a graphical element to it which Conky doesn't have and seems to be more fully developed.

    I know you can use Desklets and Screenlets, but making your own setups using those is far harder than using Samurize. You need to be able to write code, rather than just working with a GUI and Conky has very little in the way of graphical elements.

    Cheers

    You could try my app, see the link in my sig...

    Not everyones cup of tea, but it provides html based output with a variety of plugins and shell commands in templates for custom solutions...

    We also have a few users on the thread already so you can get some assistance with the initial steps if need be.

    There are default templates for all the plugins, which by the way are based on my conky scripts. If you want something new in output format you need to work with html and/or css. Plenty of examples are there so for the not so established it still should be too tricky.

    Wowie zowie! That's original enough, and beautiful too!
