I'm using Conky 1.6.1 and I'm having problems with the goto variable. I've done some testing, and here's the oddity: If I put conky on the left of the screen, the goto variable works. If I do ANYTHING else, either set a gap so it is not docked to the left of the screen or set alignment to top_right or bottom_right, the goto fails. Basically, everything after the goto on that line simply does not display. Here's a sample config where it fails:
    Code:
    #!/bin/bash

    own_window no
    double_buffer yes
    # fiddle with window
    use_spacer none
    use_xft yes
    update_interval 1.0
    draw_shades no
    # Text stuff
    xftfont Bitstream Vera Sans:style=bold:size=6
    xftalpha .8
draw_outline no # amplifies text if yes
    draw_borders no
uppercase no # set to yes if you want all text to be in uppercase
    #end Text stuff
    border_margin 9
    border_width 10
    default_color grey
    alignment top_right
    gap_x 10
    gap_y 40

    # stuff after 'TEXT' will be formatted on screen

    TEXT
    ${color white}$stippled_hr
    ${color green}${exec whoami}$color on $nodename
    $sysname $kernel ($machine) $uptime
    Battery: ${battery_percent}% $battery_bar
    $stippled_hr

    Awww${goto 60}HELL
    What's the problem here???

    original post #5599

OK, I maybe found two possiblities.

One way I can get the two wallpaper lines displayed is using sed like this
    Code:
    sed -n -e '/Wallpaper\[$e\]=/ s/Wallpaper\[$e\]=//p' ~/.kde/share/config/kdesktoprc | sed -e '1d' | sed -e '3,$d' | more
    sed output looks like this
    Code:
    $HOME/downloads/backgrounds/25331-night4.jpg
    $HOME/downloads/temp/pics/batman/whysoseriousebyatribecadh2560x1600.jpg

and another way is I can get dcop to set the root paper like this
    Code:
    dcop kdesktop KDesktopIface setIconsEnabled false
    dcop kdesktop KDesktopIface setIconsEnabled true
The problems I have with each is this. With sed I can't figure out how to get feh to display them side-by-side (or display at all, feh sees the sed output as one line. So, I get a file not found error). Maybe I have to append them with imagemagick first then use feh?

The problem with dcop is it crashes conky everytime I disable/enable show icons. So, the only way to do it is run dcop then run conky. Which would be fine unless I wanted to change my wallpaper. Because, if I change my wallpaper then I have to kill conky, then dcop the icons, then start conky. So, maybe there is a way to set up conkyrc to not crash when icons are enabled/disabled?

    What do you think?

Slight updates to my typewriter desktop. The Conky windows and Tilda terminals have actually two different typewriter fonts, MyUnderwood (in the "main" Conky and the MPD info Conky) and Powderfinger (which has a degree symbol, and is therefore more usable in the ConkyForecast setup), both downloadable at dafont.com. This time I'm running Lyricsdownloader in a Tilda terminal instead of Conky (lyricsdownloader | less).

P.S. I later attached a ZIP archive of the three conkyrc files (conky*), the conkyForecast template and the startup-script for launching these together (bruce-type, with "sleep 30" for conkyweather-type in order that e.g. wireless network comes up before the weather-conky). These are customised for my Openbox desktop, some modifications may be required if you use these in other environments ("override" instead of "desktop" seems like a good idea in Nautilus).

I never use smilies, but there are exceptions that prove the rule [Hey, how do I disable showing colon & parenthesis as an emoticon in my signature?]

Thank you very much! It's sad that I could write a script to get mounted volumes but not know something as simple as that. That's okay, you should see how long it took me to learn to up the text_buffer_size

    Cheers

    hahahaha Now tell me this:
I'm using goto's to align my top cpu/mem lists. I have four columns, name cpu% name mem%
Is there a way to align them so that in column two when one line is a percent that uses one additional digit it will still be right aligned even with the others in the column? I hope that made sense. Basically right now I have something like this when it goes to an additional digit:

    14.65%
    1.35%
    2.22%

Try "use spacer left" or "right", above TEXT.
    Warranty? Who needs a warranty?
If it ain't broke, take it apart and fix it.

No problem.I built my own computer and installed three different operating
systems but I still had to get the 10 year old kid next door to show me how to use my new mobile phone.

    Hi, Bruce,
I placed here a kind of 'Horizontal Conky' in my Kubuntu Desktop with KDE 4.2... but I found out this is not a genuine horizontal setting... Even I think this is good for KDE user having the panel on bottom default....The conky's window height can be set as "minimum size" only !?... So, if I do not use feh with ' ${color black}${execi 10000 ~/.set_wallpaper} ' in conkyrc, making conky window a kind of "transparent" on any choosed wallpaper, I would have more than 90% of desktop covered by conky window... Any idea?...
