    Hi all! I am very much a noob to this. I found a conkyrc file which I am trying to tweak to match my desktop. How do I prevent conky appearing ontop of open windows as in the screenshot with firefox?

    Hi! Try either "own_window_type normal" or "own_window_type desktop" instead of "own_window_type override".

    Hi,

    I'm have a one liner conky at the top of my screen. How can I pad the figures from the conky variables to prevent the display from moving about?

    Use ${goto X} where X is the number of pixels from the left hand side, it moves the text that follows to that position.

    For example,

    Code:
    ${font URW Chancery L:size=14}${goto X}${time %a, %d of %b}${goto X}${time %H:%M:%S}
    I use Gimp to judge mine.

    Question User defined variables?

    Hi there, we are trying to use a standard .conkyrc config on several notebooks. What we are in need of (if available) is a user defined variable for conky so that we can populate it with the ethx and wlanx settings at the start of the .conkyrc file to eliminate the need to search and replace after a rebuild as each machine is different.
    Any ideas would be appreciated. Could not find an answer in the search or reading many pages of excellent tips.

    Cheers

    Edit: to summarize I would like to have to edit the file and quickly change one parameter to show the IP of the active NIC as I use (for example) eth2 in many places in the file and this interface is different between machines.

    What desktop manager are you using? Compiz, metacity, xfce etc etc.
    I see you are using: Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex

    Can you show me the file you use to autostart it?

    Have a nice day
