    When I install liblua5.1-0-dev, synaptic shows lua5.1.pc as an installed file.

    Found with locate after updating database.
    Code:
    sudo updatedb && locate lua5.1.pc
    glen@Raring:~$ sudo updatedb && locate lua5.1.pc
    [sudo] password for glen:
    /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pkgconfig/lua5.1.pc

    Okay, so fixed part of the problem. lua.pc was actually called lua5.1.pc, so I just made a symbolic link to it. However, my lua script requires cairo, and I can't seem to figure out which package should be installed to get these bindings. I have libcairo2 installed, and I also tried liblua5.1-oocairo0 and liblua5.1-oocairo-dev, but no luck. Anyone know? I think I'm close to getting it working now ...

    EDIT: okay, got it working myself. For the record, here are all the packages I had to install to get it to work correctly:

    libcairo2-devlibtolua-dev
    libtolua++5.1-dev
    liblua5.1-0-dev
    libaudclient2
    libimlib2
    libxmmsclient6
    libx11-dev
    libncurses-dev
    libxext-dev
    libxdamage-dev
    libxft-dev
    libglib2.0-dev

    Yikes, that's a lot.

    Well, I can't help much with the lua, but I find that:

    Code:
    locate
    works better at finding files

    First use:
    Code:
    updatedb
    to look through every file and puts in the locate data base, then use the locate command to search for the file again.

    Having said that if you have an error with the file missing I imagine it might not be there anyway.

    Sorry if this isn't what you needed to know, but just didn't know if you knew there's a better way to search for files...

    It is said that find and locate do the same thing, find searches right then and takes longer and locate you have to build the database (which I run a script every start up to updatedb) first then use locate, locate is faster as long as you have an up to date db. But there have been times where find never finds a file and locate does so I don't know.

    Sorry didn't see the posts above, must've been typing this right when they were....

    Yeah probably so. Thanks for the help anyway. I have the required packages and fix for the lua.pc file documented now, so there shouldn't be a problem if I need to recompile sometime.

    Using Teo's weather scripts, and VastOne's gmusicbrowser layouts. The rest is the same.
