Yeah, pasting the code with code tags seems to ignore blank lines at the beginning or end, and I think that's what the problem was. As far as the rings, make sure you edit to fit your system (number of processor cores, ethernet/wireless interfaces, and hard disks). Also, if you look in the .new_ringsrc, you will see that I took some of the information from a file called myconfig.txt. To create that file on your system, run:
in a terminal. Then you will probably have to do a little editing on the line numbers and cut characters e.g.(cut -c 31-34) to get the specific info for your system.Code:sudo lshw > myconfig.txt
Other than that, if you put the new_rings.lua in a folder titled "scripts" (without quotes) in your home folder, and, once again, change the x and y gap positioning, it should work except for adjustments to fit your screen.

Hi,
Whats the best way to get total UP/DOWN traffic in KB/s ?
I did a fresh install to jump up to 12.04 and the Nvidia drivers are creating 2nd monitor support problems. The second monitor in most cases are going white and when you move the mouse to that monitor it turns to an x. Occasionally when you restart you will see the desktop for 1-2 seconds but still goes white. There's quite a few reports about it, think I saw one on Launch Pad too. They are fine if you only want to use one monitor. Hell I can't even use the 3d environment in 12.04 without constant freezes, we've been testing in 2d and all is well so far, I can't stand 2d though lol.

I will add that this only tracks up and down for the current session. It resets when you log out or restart in any way. If you want to keep track of your total data usage for any connection, look for vnstat. Several users make use of it, including Sector11 and myself.
*EDIT* Good Lord... I just realised I'm the first poster on the 1982 page. Same as my birth year. And suddenly this thread sends shivers down my spine...
