    Why not check for the rhythmbox process in the normal way through Lua rather than using conky_parse?

    e.g. using the following in the test?

    Code:
    os.execute("ps aux | grep rhythmbox | grep -v grep")
    Just a thought

    ok, just did a test, seems co-opting the already existing if to check that updates >3 should work

    revert to the origoinal script and change this line:
    Code:
    if tonumber(conky_parse('${updates}'))>3 then
    with
    Code:
    running=tonumber(conky_parse('${if_running rhythmbox}1${else}0${endif}'))
    if tonumber(conky_parse('${updates}'))>3 and running==1 then

    I will have to find out what's causing this. My computer has only been running for 4 hours, and already RAM is at 24%.

    I connect to this machine using vino from time to time.

    I also have AFP set up so I can connect to my shares from my iMac.

    Otherwise nothing else is running. Strange...
    What happens if you
    Code:
    killall conky
    and check your ram usage after a few hours without conky running.

    I'm going to run it here (resize the fonts, I can't see it) and see what it does here with RAM. But in all honesty I see nothing that should cause this in your conky!

    I'm running at a steady 20% since I turned your conky on.
    But I have Gedit with 6 files open, Terminator open, Claws-mail running, IceWeasel (obviously I'm here) and Thunar.

    And I'm running 8 of my own conkys. (Trash doesn't show as it's empty)

    EDIT: Will post again in a few hours!

    I didn't know about it either ...

    ummmmmmmmmmmmm ...... and still don't.

    Well OK, that's technically incorrect, I know "about" it now, I just have NO CLUE as to what it is!!

    Re: Post your .conkyrc files w/ screenshots

    heres my conky. Finally managed to make a partially transparent background that fades from black on the right, to transparent on the left. Allows me to use it with 99% of my wallpapers. Came across a nice line of code that changes my battery bars color as it discharges, green, yellow, orange and red. I know it needs cleaning up, if anyone has any suggestions for unneeded lines of codes, I welcome the advice.

    Code:
    # UBUNTU-CONKY
    # A comprehensive conky script, configured for use on
    # Ubuntu / Gnome, uses conky forecast, opacity is set in compiz
    # INCLUDES:

    Nice, can you share the image as well?

    Also you can save a line by adding the image line after the next line:

    Code:
    TEXT
    ############################### BACKGROUND IMAGE ########################

    ${color orange}SYSTEM ${hr 2}${color}${image /home/lansing/.Conky/pix/fantasy-4.png -p 0,0 -s 220x1280}
    ################################## SYSTEM   ########  start of script ########
    ... it's that "-p 0,0" that is the key!

    Also you "should" use brackes for all commands $color = ${color} etc etc. I know that it's an "option" with some commands but it's been noted that after other commands sometimes they don't work as advertised.

    After 3 and a half hours I watched you conky on my system as noted here Post #15754 I never saw your conky go higher than the RAM 20% it started with, with everything i had open, I did see it drop to 9% when I closed everything down though, except for my conkys.

    I'm thinking; it has to be something other than your conky!

    I think I posted what you were asking this time around, wasn't sure so I added all of them, lol.

    Do these lines of code both go in the lua? does 1 go in template and 1 in lua?
