Now, considering my monitor is set to 1280x800, it shouldn't be outputting all the way across the screen so I can't read anything. How do I remedy this?

Secondly...there's the issue of the terminal window in the way. Now, when I was using conky before, I never had that problem, and it's showing the Gmail script, and I'm using the exact same script. Why is it there now, and how do I make it so this terminal window doesn't show up every time I run Conky?
your minimum_width 500 is probably what is causing this. Change it to
    Code:
    minimum_width 150
to start, then play around with it to your liking.

As for your question about the terminal... If you call conky from a terminal it will always post the results inside the terminal. At least it does for me. If you set it up in startup applications you should not see a terminal window.

Actually, the problem is probably that there's no such variable as minimum_width...Try either minimum_size (takes two arguments, width and height, separated by a space) or maximum_width!

Oops good catch. Yes maximum_width is what I meant.

    Thanks for the help guys.

The problem with the terminal was that I was starting it in Openbox and used mmaker to write my menu files. It set up the Conky option as 'xterm -e conky'

    Anyway, here's the fixed version:

    Code:
    use_xft yes
    xftfont sans Bold:size=9
    double_buffer yes

    update_interval 1

    draw_borders 0
    draw_shades yes

    no_buffers yes

    default_color white
    default_shade_color black
    default_outline_color black

    alignment top_right
    maximum_width 325

The first thing you should probably do is change your twitter username and password and edit it out of your post.

For wrapping the rss, the conky variable can't do it (yet) but you can use a script called conky-rss.sh and use it with fold.
    Code:
    ${execi 60 conky-rss.sh http://username:password@twitter.com/statuses/friends_timeline/35138760.rss|fold -sw 55}
fold -sw 55 will wrap at 55 characters.

I've been messing with conky for hours now, lol. Here's the more minimalist updated version.

    Code:
    # UBUNTU-CONKY
    # A comprehensive conky script, configured for use on
    # Ubuntu / Debian Gnome, without the need for any external scripts.
    #
    # Based on conky-jc and the default .conkyrc.
    # INCLUDES:
    # - tail of /var/log/messages
    # - netstat shows number of connections from your computer and application/PID making it. Kill spyware!
