i'm just curious, is there an automatix-like program for windows?

For what purposes? As far as codecs are concerned, most are built in. Plugins you can install from the browser with no problems. That is the only purpose automatix really serves: plugins and codecs. The other apps are just kind of there.
i meant more along the lines of apps. i know what you mean with codecs, but they do manage to have a good selection of apps. unfortunately, i install many windows programs on computers all day at my job and i bet an automated installer would make my life much easier.
Not really. If you want the Realplayer codec, you need to install Realplayer. If you need to be able to play divx, xvid, sorenson or any of a host of common codecs, you need to install additional software. Outside of mp3 and common Microsoft codecs, every codec requires installing additional components. Just like linux.
There's autopatcher:

Not as good as automatix, but can still save A TON of time on a fresh install.

hi, there are these:
software packs -
autopatcher it has lots of stuff as well as MS updates. i think you have to make sure you get the correct pack, because some are full packs and others are just updates for the full packs.
this is just security updates, i haven't used it though -

if you use autopatcher it's a good idea to use a download manager incase you loose the connection.
here are some codec packs -

Thanks to the forums staff for your dedication and hard work
(the admins changed my sig to that lol )
I think some programs have unattended install options, but it will vary from program to program, and it might take as much time to set them all up as it would to just click-click-click-finish.
