I just want to disable or change that window after you login, doesn't look good with my current theme. So do I have to manually edit the gdm script or is there an easy way to disable that window, and what is is called?

Just found it, I disabled it in the Sessions Pref, disble show splash screen on login.
it's called gnome splash and it's just a plain png image you can easily change.
there's lots of them at gnome-look.org
and there is even a nifty little app you can install through synaptic to change the splashes. I can't remember how it is called but just search splash screen in synaptic
