I have had limited experience with XFCE, so far its with 7.04 and 8.04 Xubuntu and its great. Xubuntu is one of Linux' best distros.

Take a look at pc-os http://pc-os.org/
While not the most attractive, I have found that it loads quickly and also has many packages already installed.
Zenwalk is quite pleasant, as is Debian with Xfce.
