    Bennettg,

Ihope you didn't repeat my typo on your command line. wpa_supplicnt.conf should be wpa_supplicant.conf.

    Sorry 'bout that

Are you sure you have the ipw2200 module loaded?

    Do sudo modinfo ipw2200.

    Bennettg,

    Also do ifconfig.

I'm assuming you have an ethernet card as well as the wireless? You may als want to take a look at /etc/network/interfaces. Post thst here if you can.

    Re: HOWTO: ipw2200 + wpa

    Bennettg,

Is your wireless interface eth0 or eth1? If eth1, then you need to run wpa_supplicant like this
    Code:
    sudo wpa_supplicant -ieth1 -c/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf -Dipw -w
Also, post the output of 'ifconfig'.

the wireless is eth1. so i did this in the terminal
    bennettg@ubuntu:~$ sudo wpa_supplicant -ieth1 -c/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf -Dipw -w
    bennettg@ubuntu:~$ sudo wpa_supplicant -ieth1 -c/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf -Dipw -w
    Password:
    ioctl[SIOCSIWPMKSA]: Operation not supported

I tried this last command earlier and was getting output that said it was associated, with outher things. then the computer froze. when i did it again after restarting, all i got was the above

    Re: HOWTO: ipw2200 + wpa

    bennettg,

Did you apply a fix that called for creating
    Code:
    /etc/modprobe.d/ipw2200
    And adding the single line
    Code:
    options ipw2200 hwcrypt=0
    ?
If you did, then undo it by putting a # at the beginning of the line. You can also use this file to turn on control of the wireless LED
    Code:
    options ipw2200 led=1

    Re: HOWTO: ipw2200 + wpa

    Bennettg,

I think you're allmost there. If you can run the wpa_supplicant command and get a good 'associate' without locking up, try to enable dhcp on the interface
    Code:
    sudo dhclient eth1
And see if it gets you an IP address.

    Re: HOWTO: ipw2200 + wpa

thanks for helping. i hope i'm almost there.

i dont know about any fix. i followed the steps in the ifrst post of this thread, but used the newest drivers. I dont' have a file /etc/modprobe.d/ipw2200

here is the output. Do I have an IP?

    bennettg@ubuntu:~$ sudo dhclient eth1

Also, most of the time when booting, I seem to get the following error:

modprobe: FATAL: Error inserting ieee80211_crypt_wep (/lib/modules/2.6.12-10-686/net/ieee80211/ieee80211_crypt_wep.ko): unknown symbol in module or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
