Everything seems fine, so the problem isn't there.
    Does it connect without WEP/WPA?

I'm not sure I understood your question, but I'll try answering anyways. I can use wired conneciton no problem. But I have problem with wireless internet. My router is set to use WPA and I cannot connect to it. But even if I set my router to use WEP, i still cannot connect to it.

I could connect to WEP enabled wireless BEFORE I followed this HOWTO. Now neither WPA nor WEP works...Let me post the output of iwconfig to see if that tells you anything more.

    lo no wireless extensions.

I just wanted to know if it connects when you disable wpa on the router.
Anyway, are you using DHCP or static IP?
If you're using the DHCP, try to use static IP and let me know.

    Re: HOWTO: ipw2200 + wpa

Hello, I am a total n00b to Linux and Ubuntu so please in advance excuse my ignorance! I have been trying to install my ipw2200 on a Thinkpad R50e on and on for a couple of weeks ago. When I run make on the ieee80211-1.0.3 directory, I receive this:
sed: can't read /lib/modules/2.6.12-8-686/build//build/.config: No such file or directory
    make -C /lib/modules/2.6.12-8-686/build M=/home/aarona/Desktop/ieee80211-1.0.3 MODVERDIR=/home/aarona/Desktop/ieee80211-1.0.3 modules
    /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.12-8-686/scripts/gcc-version.sh: line 11: gcc-3.4: command not found
    /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.12-8-686/scripts/gcc-version.sh: line 12: gcc-3.4: command not found
    make[1]: gcc-3.4: Command not found[PHP]
    make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.12-8-686'
    CC [M] /home/aarona/Desktop/ieee80211-1.0.3/ieee80211_module.o
    /bin/sh: gcc-3.4: command not found
    make[2]: *** [/home/aarona/Desktop/ieee80211-1.0.3/ieee80211_module.o] Error 127
    make[1]: *** [_module_/home/aarona/Desktop/ieee80211-1.0.3] Error 2
    make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.12-8-686'
    make: *** [modules] Error 2
Can someone please help me? It seems as though the first line: "/lib/modules/2.6.12-8-686/build//build/.config" is an invalid path because of the double slashes. I followed the directions verbatium until this point

    Thanks in Advance,
    Aaron

GCC is not installed on your system: just install it from Synaptics or apt.

Thank you luca! What a silly oversight on my part. I haven't tested WPA yet, but non-secured wireless is working great!

    Take care,
    Aaron

    Re: HOWTO: ipw2200 + wpa

Is there anyway to upgrade the linux headers without having to reinstall ipw2200?

I have a lot of updates waiting to be downloaded and installed, its just a pain to lose my wireless connection and having to go the the entire installation process all over again to get the wireless card working.

    Re: HOWTO: ipw2200 + wpa

If you run another kernel, you'll have to recompile ipw2200.
If you just upgrade the linux headers (and I don't see the need without running a new kernel), then you won't probably have to recompile it.

Have tried this to install the drives for my 2200 card. And all I get is make : command not found??? is not make inc in the built 5.10?
