Thanks. Guide Worked Great.
when i tried
the first time, i got a X for a cursor and a black and white background and the desktop just didnt do anything else.Code:vncviewer localhost:1
after i restarted and tried again, i got this error:
Any ideas people, i want to get this pc monitor-less as soon as possible but i cant untill i can remote desktop to it.Code:ReadFromRFBServer: rdr::EndOfStream
Thanks in advance who ever helps.
I've followed this guide and got it working on my computer using Kubuntu Fiesty. But whenever i try to launch some aplications like firefox from a vnc session i get the following error:
Actually i get that error message from all GUI programs i try to launch from the console, but some of the just report the error (up until "The program 'X' received an X Window System error...) then launch.Code:X Error: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation) 1 Major opcode: 146 Minor opcode: 2 Resource id: 0x3800001 Xlib: extension "XInputExtension" missing on display "monkeybox.local:1.0". Failed to get list of devices The program 'firefox-bin' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)'. (Details: serial 190 error_code 1 request_code 146 minor_code 23) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
What could be the cause?

This issue was still there for me. After a bit of googling and looking i found out that making your /etc/xinetd.d/Xvnc file look like this helps:The error was 'BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)'. (Details: serial 190 error_code 1 request_code 146 minor_code 23) ...

Web Application Design and linux support:
worked like a charm.
thank you so much!
This works absolutely brilliantly.
However, I have noticed I get the following error whenever I log in via a VNC session:
(Basically the power manager crashes - description at url above)
Anyone got any suggestions how to fix this - it only happens with VNC sessions - if I log in when I'm actually at my desktop there are no errors.
Worked great in Kubuntu and Ubuntu 7.10, the setup is virtually the same with the only difference being how to enable Xdmcp for kdm or gdm...kdm was easier.
Well I followed the tutorial and I just can't get vncviewer to work. Here's the log i get:
I keep getting the fontpath and the rgb error even though i have adjusted the paths in /etc/vnc.config like this:Code:Couldn't open RGB_DB '/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/rgb' Xvnc Free Edition 4.1.2 - built May 12 2006 17:42:24 Copyright (C) 2002-2005 RealVNC Ltd. Could someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?Code:$fontPath = "/usr/share/fonts/X11/misc,"; $fontPath .= "/usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi/:unscaled,"; $fontPath .= "/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi/:unscaled,"; $fontPath .= "/usr/share/fonts/X11/Type1,"; $fontPath .= "/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi,"; $fontPath .= "/usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi"; $colorPath = "/usr/lib/X11/rgb.txt";
