Post Help Picking out parts to build a new computer

Update (09/07/06)- I've updated my list thanks to your guys feedback. Please look it over again as a lot has changed.

Alright I'm getting ready to build a new computer. I am posting what I have so far. I welcome all of your suggestions. Also I'd like to know if anything I've picked out has issues running under Linux (I'd like to avoid headaches while I can). Also my budget is rather high. I worked my *** off this summer for this computer so I can get quality and not bargin bin stuff.

    Monitors
I'm looking to run two 19'' or 20'' monitors. I'd like to rotate one of them 90 degrees to take advantage of all the things on computers that are taller than they are wide (word documents, IRC, source code, web pages). So I monitor that rotates is a requirement. Preferably two of the same so they look good next to each other. I'm considering these two right now but I'm still looking around a lot. I'm also not sure if the second one rotates.

    Motherboard
I realize the P5B has an issue with the JMicron chip not being supported yet but it looks like its coming very soon in the 2.6.18 kernel so I guess I will just deal with it till then.

ASUS P5B has some issues under dapper with reguards to the onboard jmicron chip. There's "suppose" to be a fix for it in edgy.

Yeah like plissken said that motherboard chipset will give you problems until edgy is released. If you want to upgrade before then, consider getting this board instead. It's quite cheap compared to most Core 2 boards and has many of the same features.

And actually the intel's are a better deal if you are talking about performance / dollar.

I have the same dvd drive, you will love it

If you are looking for cases that offer good cooling and low noise I'd suggest one of these two.

And because of the deal I would recommend this seagate over the western digital.

Other than that you should have a fine system for when edgy is released.

How does that seagate compare to the western digital raptor?? Go for the raptor baby.... 10k rpm you will boot up in like 12 seconds . Another thing... i dont know much about patriot ram. is that a good brand?

Yeah I was considering that Antec Performance I P180. It has really great reviews and looks fantastic. I need to fix out a power supply (350-400 watt) to go with it.

As for the mobo that really sucks about it not having support yet (though it looks like its coming in the 2.6.18 kernel release but no guarantees. I guess I'd rather not risk it and just get something that works but the ASUS P5B does look pretty sweet.

The segate you recommended is 2x the cost of the western digital i listed and only 20gb more? What justifies the higher price?

Also NoTiG I really want to get a Raptor but the price/performance just doesn't cut it yet. IT would be sweet though.

The hard drive is 70 gigs more, and its what you pay on the spot now. For the other one you're going to have to pay $140 now and wait several months for that rebate. It's up to u really.

Also with the compUSA deal - u should get crackin on it if u want it. No delivery available cuz they're already out of stock so only in-store pickup.

Ahh good point, I'd rather not mess with any rebates anyways.
