libmtp

is there a repository for libmtp? I have not been able to manually install the software.

I have this exact some question.

I just spent half an hour digging through the libmtp project page, and trying different apt-get commands on the hope that I was doing something stupid.

I've currently got the main, universe, restricted, and multiverse checked. I'm running Ubutnu 8.10, updated this morning.

What on earth is the path for this guy?

Also, while I'm at it, can a libMTP guy explain if it's currently in 0.3.6, why do I see references to "libmtp5 and libmtp6" floating around? Are they endcapping the name with the minor version number?
