Ubuntu Software Update Error/Issue

I installed 14.04.3 on a new laptop at the weekend and when trying to run updates I'm getting an error "Error:Broken Count>0" I've hunted around looking for some guidance but come up empty. I did run 2 commands in Terminal (sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get upgrade) following a suggestion on another thread. Results below:

I noted the message at the end of this second command and therefore ran "apt-get -f install" as suggested and got the following:

There is no mention of libdbusmenu-qt5 in the output from your last command around line 44905. The does assume that sed and your package manager are reading the files correctly. I suspect this is not the case.

Does this look familiar ?

Anyway, my advice is to reinstall. You've only just installed the system so don't even try to fix it. Reinstall it's quicker.

That said, i'm interested in how your system got into that state just after a fresh install as I don;t want it to happen to you again.

Did you check the hash of the ISO file before you used it ?

What did you do, post installation of Ubuntu, to your system ?

What extra software did you install and what further configuration have you performed ?

Thanks for the quick replies. No, I didn't check the hash after downloading the ISO. Hadn't got round to installing that much - few chess game/ databases, calibre, vlc player - and I don't recall any issues while installing. I'm also pretty sure that I ran the updates after installation without issues.
Anyway I'll take your advice and do a reinstall - after checking the ISO this time.
