Re: Kernel 4.3 is landing in Xenial

Kernel 4.3.0-1 upgraded in the normal update this morning. Working fine. Was using 4.3.0 because it was the only kernel that was working with my new Intel Z170 MB. Now looking for the release of 16.04 with 4.4 kernel! <smile>

And it seems this latest is supporting gedit and nautilus in their new gnome fittings.

In Unity you are able to change icon size in Nautilus by holding the Ctrl key and use the mouse wheel to change the size.

Re: Kernel 4.3 is landing in Xenial

I didn't enable proposed but when the 4.3 kernel came through in regular updates my Xubuntu Xenial Xerus install was totally hosed it and that was with the 4.3.0-1-generic kernel.
The system would not even go full screen. I just let it sit and used Arch in the meantime.

Then the 4.3.0-2-generic kernel came through today but still the same thing no full screen system and a block a couple inches high at the bottom that was unusable.
But after purging compiz, nvidia-current (304.131 driver) and messing with it for a couple hours I got it right.

I applied a few tricks I've learned in this forum and that's what fixed it. I also learned something new that finally fixed the window manager.
Everywhere you look it says to put in CCSM window decoration /usr/bin/compiz but that does not work and everything was still messed up.
I just looked around in /etc/bin and found compiz and also compiz-decorator so when I put /usr/bin/compiz-decorator in CCSM window decoration, BAM it worked a charm.
So, I finally do not have to try to get emerald installed to have a good window manager.

I even installed the 340.96 driver and thought this old card couldn't handle it but it works fine.

    Regards

Re: Kernel 4.3 is landing in Xenial

I have 2 installs of Xenial. One which I uodate/upgrade every day is still on kernel 4.2 and Nautilus 3.14. The other Xenial I just updated for the first ime since I put in the install about 3 weeks ago and it is now on kernel 4.3 and Nautilus 3.18 with the massive icon sizes.

Kernel 4.3 is running fine on Nouveau. Although resizing a Libreoffice window goes a millimeter at a time & greys the window out. I have Nvida GT220 .
It is a machine. It is more stupid than we are. It will not stop us from doing stupid things.

I still get this little monster:

    Code:
