Where to answer a thread already closed?

    Hello everybody!

I wanted to answer this thread as I've found the solution to the problem posted. Unluckily, the thread is now closed.

Where can I post the solution so it can be available for anyone interested in reading it?

    Thank you in advance.

    Regards!

Re: Where to answer a thread already closed?

When posts are over a year old, they are generally closed. I presume this is to keep the information current, as Ubuntu and Linux in general are constantly changing. However, to reopen an old post, there is a "Report Post" in the lower left corner. Normally this is used to call attention to bad language, bad behavior, or not following the Ubuntu Forums Code of Conduct. But you can use the "Report Post" button to flag the Post (and the thread that it is in) and explain that you would like to reopen it and add a solution. If a moderator agrees and reopens it, then you can add your solution.

Another way is to just make a new Thread in the appropriate subforum (perhaps Programming), and make a Descriptive Title for it and post your solution. Then put a link to the old thread in it and then send a Private Message to the Original Poster (OP) that you found a solution to his 3-year old problem. It's possible that the OP already found a solution or a different way of solving the problem.

    Regardless, welcome to the forums.

Thank you for your feedback. I'll post it in a new thread anyway as it seems the user hasn't been active since 2012.

EDIT: As it's a procedure for Eclipse, can it be put into "Tutorials"?

You can put it wherever you see fit. The moderators will move it if they feel it belongs somewhere else. I suggested programming because Eclipse is a programming environment, and the thread you referenced was a programming issue. But it's your thread so put it where you think it belongs.

The op of that thread last logged in December 2012, I don't think he's still waiting for an answer.

I know, but I thought firstly that I could answer his problem anyway, as I had it recently (yes, the problem still occurs!) XD

That's why I asked where to put it.
