Ubuntu - to use or not to use?

I'm debating on even installing Ubuntu, I could use it in vmware but it kinda feels dumb because the apps I use in Ubuntu I can use in Windows. My main problem is my surround sound speakers, the Logitech x-530 5.1 speakers won't use all 5 speakers and sub. With the lack of software and at times instability when I use kde, I'm starting to lose hope. I want this to replace Windows, not now, but in the future. I am starting to think it will never be as usable as Windows or OS X. I'm gonna get flamed, but it's a sad truth.

    You'll more likely be ignored.

Nobody's gonna flame you. If it's not for you, it's not for you. End of discussion :/

The thing that annoys me is it's so close to being for me I can taste it. It's just these little hurdles that are stopping me. Currently I like booting into my dvd of knoppix to try out the applications and it's nice, again little hurdles are stopping me from using it more if not fully.
