Question Win 7 Desktop for Ubuntu

Please forgive what I am certain is a repetitive question. Although I have toyed with the idea of migrating from Win 7 Ultimate to Ubuntu, it is now a matter of necessity due to work I am doing with my associates in India.

Briefly, my associates suggested I use the XFCE Desktop. Is there a better suggestion, in that I wish to have my Program Start Buttons on the bottom toolbar?

Panels in XFCE can be added, deleted, moved, and panel indicators can be applied in any running panel. XFCE is easy to customize once you know your way around.

    That confirms my thinking.
