[lubuntu] audio problems

hey guys i just installed lubuntu on my compaq cq58 laptop and im really loving it . im fairly new to linux (been switching distros for like 4 months now and im still learning) and yet here's the problem . i get no audio whatsoever. i installed pavucontrol and im still having trouble because at the configuration tab it says "No cards available for configuration" . does that mean my sound card is not supported or im doing anything wrong ? also at output devices i get only Dummy Output and nothing else . please help

have a look in the system profiler in the menu or type hardinfo in your terminal, find out what it says about your devices, and start there
