Unhappy I can connect to a network, but Firefox doesn't go to any sites.

Pretty much what the title says. I was having frustrating issues with Ubuntu [I might have screwed something up unintentionally] and fresh installed it. All is well, except that Firefox doesn't connect to the internet. What's going on, and how do I fix this?

Edit: I forgot to mention that windows machines, etc all work perfectly in the same network.

Edit2: Forgot to mention: I've already tried IPV6 disabling, and setting firefox not to use a proxy. On second look, it looks like this is affecting the software center, too.

Computer is a Lenovo Thinkpad T400.

Thread moved to Networking & Wireless.

Are you using a static IP address or getting one from the router? Network Manager is telling you the machine is connected and all good?

Network manager is telling me the machine is connected, which is what's so confusing about it. I'm not entirely sure how to tell if the IP address is static or not. Thanks
