Keyboard Shorcuts Aren't working. Ubuntu version 14.04.2

I just installed ubuntu two hours ago, and I've been having many problems, most of them with shortcuts. When I press CTRL C, all it does is make a capital C. If I press CTRL A to select all, it just makes a capital A. If I press CTRL V, it makes a capital V. It's the same thing for the alt key. So, I can't open the command terminal without going to the ubuntu search. Also, does this have anything to do with the version of ubuntu I'm using? I wasn't sure if I was supposed to use the older or newer version, so I used the older. I'm not just a regular user, I do complicated work in Blender for animation, so I need to know which version I should use for that.

In the terminal, run the on-screen keyboard...
    Code:
    onboard
    Same result?

I figured out what the problem was. Basically, my keyboard was too new and I guess the drivers weren't working properly. After trying many different keyboards and mice, I finally found ones that work properly. I'm going to mark this as solved xP
