Hi
The T7200 is 64 bit
There are as many opinions on partitioning as there are Linux users. I'd say that on a 320GB drive 8GB (2.5% of the disk space) is not going to make any difference. So it doesn't matter when you make your root partition or any other partition a few GB larger than really necessary. 10GB should be enough for a root partition, but to be on the safe side, make it 15 or even 20. Having some extra space on the root partition is sometimes handy. Extra space on swap serves no purpose. Using large amounts of swap (large relative to the hard drive write speed) makes the computer very slow.
As to which computer to convert first, it depends on how you use them. If you want to use Ubuntu for everything except the few things that you really cannot do on Linux, then first convert the most powerful computer. If Windows is to remain the main system until you know your way in Ubuntu, first convert the weakest machine. But if you don't make Ubuntu your main system, it may take a very long time to get comfortable with it.

The reason for having Windows is that most users over the globe still use it........so need apps like Skype, MS Off, Foxit........since the last time way back in 2008 had compatibility issues.
