Skype detects webcam but option disabled in call

Hello,

I am relatively new to Ubuntu, but made a complete switch on my personal laptop - and I am loving it! The only issue that I still have is that I am a heavy user of Skype, as I work with people scattered across the globe, but I am unable to make video calls at the moment.

When I go into the options, I can see my webcam (it is a Dell Vostro 130 laptop with an integrated webcam) mounted on dev/video0 and I see myself in the preview screen. The camera also works in Cheese without any problem.

However, when I initiate a call, the camera button is crossed and I cannot enable my webcam. Nada.

Is there something I can do?

Hello and welcome.

Have you checked in Skype? Options/settings (mine defaults to the system language - PT_pt - so it can be different in yours) > video... Is video enabled and is the camera selectable in the drop-down menu?

Yes, as I mention in my original message, I do see the webcam, can select it, video is enabled, and I do see the video feed in the preview space. The issue is when I am initiating a call or in-call: then the video option is crossed out and not available.

I'm having the same problem here, with an Asus N76V. In options I can see my webcam function, but when I try to make a call the option to video is disable
