LG Slim Portable External USB DVD Writer Model No.GP50NB40 Not Working

Hello,

On my Ubuntu 14.10, the LG Slim Portable External USB DVD Writer Model No.GP50NB40 is not getting detected. Are there any drives that I need to install. I tried accessing the drive both by using k3b and xfburn, but no luck. I don't see the device in the lsusb output as well. Request help.

Same here.

On same desktop, same usb port, same cable, same dvd data disk: works great on vista (after it downloads some driver), no go with ubuntu 14.04

Same problem here. Same version of Ubuntu, same external DVD drive. Guessing it's a driver issue? Anyone?

In the same boat. Will work a little then give up, say, while burning and leaving a corrupt broken media.
