Sound problems, volume spikes to 100% at random

    Hi,
I'm using Ubuntu 14.04.1LTS and I've been having annoying problems with my sound. At random while listening to music or watching a video the volume will spike up to 100% briefly (for about a second or so) and then drop back down to where it was previously. The way I'm dealing with it is to have the volume ALWAYS at 100% and controlling the volume with my external speakers, but that's not a solution but merely a workaround. If using headphones that don't have volume control, there's nothing I can do about it.
Here's the output of aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 0: ALC892 Analog [ALC892 Analog]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 1: ALC892 Digital [ALC892 Digital]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: HDMI [HDA ATI HDMI], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 3: Alpha [Lexicon Alpha], device 0: USB Audio [USB Audio]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

All I know is that I know nothing....

i have the same problem, and yes, the only workaround is to set volume to 100% and control it from the speaker
