from google.com via google search for Stable & Unstable. .deb files downloaded. On Ubuntu 14.04

no i have Chrome Stable & Chrome Beta Installed.

well I have fun running stable and unstable versions of various browser ,so this was new to me.
Anyway, which browser is the one set as the default one?
Inside Chrome, go to settings >> scroll down a little and see if it either says The default browser is google chrome, or it will have a button-box to make it the default browser.
See if that helps.
