    xorg.conf and logitech mouse

I'm attempting to configure my mouse to work with my new laptop. The left button, right button, scroll, search, and back and forth buttons work. So I've got some good things going on.

Problem is I miss my middle button (scroll click) and I'd like to use my other scroll wheel at my thumb. I found a post on how to configure at the arch linux wiki, however it requires changes to the xorg.conf. While I may end up having this file once I get my video card issues ironed out, this file does not exist now. I'm not going to ask for specific help on my mouse since nobody uses these anymore, I'd rather focus on the xorg settings since they seem to work on arch so probably will work on ubuntu since they aren't too specific. I use a Logitech MX Revolution. I know, old.....

    Questions:
    1. Can I just create this file?
    2. If the system does not currently use this file, will it start using the file if I create it, or do I need to point to it somewhere?
    3. Anyone know of another way to add the functionality from all of my buttons?
