Not necessarily. If we do not correct false information and if we do not reveal the inaccuracies in misleading information, then it is the false and misleading views that appear in search engine results when people search for information about a project. No matter how much their words or actions may burn, responding to them is usually stupid, largely because doing so amplifies and legitimizes their voices.
Although I am surprised at the number of people who have not noticed that writing on a social networking site is not the same as muttering softly in someone's ear. In a room full of people it is not wise to whisper in someone's ear any more because standing nearby will be someone with a mobile phone not only rudely eavesdropping but also recording every word and facial expression. And yet, again and again people with something lose get caught out.
Regards.
It is a machine. It is more stupid than we are. It will not stop us from doing stupid things.

I agree. Whether to ignore a troll or a sockpuppet or someone spreading disinformation depends on the issue at hand. A recent one is the Grinch issue. Silence would be taken as acceptance.
