I use mencoder to edit video files on the command line. This has always worked well, but on my new computer (running Ubuntu 14.10) I type
which mencoder
in the terminal and get nothing. I tried to install it using
sudo apt-get install mencoder
as outlined at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MEncoder but I get
Package mencoder is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
However, the following packages replace it:
mplayer
E: Package 'mencoder' has no installation candidate
I tried to google this problem, but no luck. I have mplayer installed.
