Ubuntu mini.iso install with xfce4 desktop environment and only apps I actually use installed. Runs great on a machine with an i3 and 4Gb RAM.

Ubuntu 14.04 LTS on Server -- some old HP desktop POS!
Arch Linux on HP Elite book.

Honestly Linux once you discover the nuances of the individual distro, is linux. I'm not longing to distrohop at the present time.

Re: What Linux Distribution Are You Using Right Now?

    Kubuntu 14.04 on 2 desktops
    Debian 7 for server
Chrunchbang - the old one with default XFCE interface. need to upgrade this one, but the laptop is so very limited in specs...
    Openelec (based on Raspbian)
XFCE & i3 buntu (cobbled from ubuntu minimal install .iso) - for tests in the virtual box
and Liberte Linux - when i don't want to be easilly tracked online.

sometimes people ask me to fix their PC. so for system repairs Clonezilla, Redo Backup, Xubuntu (for boot and quick basic system check), ultimate boot CD for fixing and troubleshooting and Avira Antivirus rescue disk or Bitdefender rescue (this one seems to find more :O ).

But mostly at home i am still on Windows XP
Read the easy to understand, lots of pics Ubuntu manual.
Do i need antivirus/firewall in linux?
Full disk backup (newer kernel -> suitable for newer PC): Clonezilla
User friendly full disk backup: Rescuezilla

Re: What Linux Distribution Are You Using Right Now?

My newest install is Mint 17.1 Cinnamon (just installed MATE on it yesterday and am getting used to that).

My other physical Linux machines have either 10.04 (Ubuntu and Mythbuntu) or 8.04 (!!) I know, I desperately need to upgrade these and they're on the to-do list. Actually the 8.04 box is going to be replaced entirely as it's a 15 year old Pentium III. Winter projects after the holiday craziness is over.

Then I have various incarnations of 14.04 (Ubuntu, Xubuntu, Ubuntu MATE, Mint) in VirtualBox VMs.
