Question About Ubuntu 14.04 and the 3.16 kernel

I am actually running 14.10...which i went to because i needed the ubuntu patched version of the 3.16 kernel because i was having multimedia stability problems with the 3.13 kernel in Ubuntu 14.04 (was running 14.04 with unity)...and i didn't want to have to wait until february when 14.04.2 arrives and they update 14.04's kernel to 3.16....

Now here is my question...a friend who runs 14.04 has noticed that when he runs Synaptic Package Manager now, he is getting 3.16 kernels listed in it which apparently can be installed...
Has anyone tried to install the ubuntu patched 3.16 kernel from Synaptic Package Manager that is now appearing in it? And if so, does it work properly?

Reason i am asking is that i would probably return to 14.04 if i could do that (install the actual ubuntu version of 3.16 kernel from package manager) but i would need to know that you can actually do it now...

Thanks in advance for all input

Re: Question About Ubuntu 14.04 and the 3.16 kernel

I just installed the 3.16 kernel packages on Ubuntu Gnome 14.04 x64, everything seems fine. I did have to manually select the packages but that was no big deal. Plymouth would not display on startup with 14.10 but it is working fine with the newer kernel in 14.04.
