My test server is "sandy bridge" (I think, I can never remember (Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600K CPU @ 3.40GHz)) I have not had power-off issues, although I only ran 3.18RC4 for a couple of days. It'll be later today or tomorrow before I try RC5.
Any follow-up information on your issue would be appreciated. Please have the courtesy to report back.

Still unusable for me as Virtualbox doesn't compile, which I need. 3.16 is the last working kernel for running Virtualbox as host ...

    No issues using VMware.

Edit: 7 hours of heavy use with a full Intel unit with no issues at all.

either something change with intel's pstate driver in this kernel or it is the repair job (broke out the soldering iron) i did to my power cable, but either way my temps are down a few C
have not seen my temps this good since before i switched to the intel_pstate driver
i have no idea how long my power cord had been betting worse for, but it is solid now

No material changes to the intel pstate driver in the 3.18 series.
