I understand that, but I think times have changed significantly and am (hopeful? optimistic?) that this may be different (but taking it with a grain of salt).

That's probably wisest, very old parables about farmers and vipers notwithstanding. Now that people are starting to look into the details, it looks like the patent license could use more than a little work to make it safe as far as paperwork goes (holding quiet about the technical stuff):
